Proposed By-law Changes
The Alamo Dressage Association Board of Directors recently reviewed the organization's by-laws and have proposed changes to the by-laws.  These changes primarily update the by-laws (for example, USEF was still referred to as AHSA!) and move some of the provisions from the by-laws to "Policies and Procedures".  This allows the board of directors more flexibility in governing the organization and responding to the changing needs of the organization.  Look for a ballot in your snail mail box soon!  Click here to see the originial by-laws and the proposed changes! Ride for the Cure raises
over $20,000 for Susan
G. Komen for the Cure

September 10, 2011– Alamo Dressage Association hosted a Rally for the Cure event, “Ride for the Cure” Dressage Team Challenge on September 10, 2011 at the San Antonio Rose Palace in Boerne, Texas. This event raised over $20,000 for Susan G.Komen for the Cure.

28 riders of all ages and their
equine partners made up the 7 teams from south and central
Texas who participated in the “Ride for the Cure”.

The Champion team (pictured above) which raised over
$7,000 was Alida’s Alliance, named for their friend, Alida Darlington, who is battling cancer. Alida’s riders included team captain, Joy Alexander, who alone raised over $4,000 and won the top prize for fundraising. Other Alida riders included Mechelle Sieg, Robin Hudson and Jennifer Blank.

The Reserve Champion team was “The Liberty Belles”, who raised over $4,000, lead by team captain Karen Silvers, a breast cancer survivor herself. Karen was the second highest fundraiser, alone raising over $3,000. The other “Belles” included Karen’s daughter, Brittany, Lauren Garretson and Eden Wyker.

The third place team, Team Teton, also raised over $4,000. Teton riders included team captain, Hannah Moore, her sister Della Moore, Grace Holt and Valerie Kedroff.

The remaining teams raised over $5,000 combined. They include: “Team Campbell-Urban/In the Irons” with riders Vicki Krebsbach, Jennifer Delmer, Madeleine Ramon and Mackenzie Rivers;
Team Cadence” with riders Christine Bergeron, Kelly Bernard and Houston Jones; “Team Double D” with riders Ashley Hammill, Leslie Johnson, Catheryn Orihuela and Kristin Moore; and “The Foxhole Fillies” with riders Diane Hanrahan, Elizabeth McRae, MD, Sally Boynton and Erin Moore.

Dover Saddlery provided beautiful awards for the Champion and Reserve teams and the following sponsors provided additional awards and goodie bag items: Boerne Stage Saddlery, Morris Kaye Furs, SmartPak Equine, Forest Horse and Bridle Suite. And Rally sponsors, Home Shopping Network and Condé Nast.

The event was organized by ADA President, Arlene Gaitan. She and ADA Junior President, Kassidy Peacock, breast cancer survivor, Cindy Hall and San Antonio Komen representative, Kara Hall (pictured above), presented the awards.  Each wore a Ride for the Cure tee; artwork generously created and donated by long time ADA member and former show manager, Jay Lauver.

Rally for the Cure, ADA's partner in this event is a grass roots program to spread awareness about breast health and breast cancer in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® through volunteer organized events. Since 1996, Komen has received over $60 million from Rally events to support their mission.

Don't forget! Volunteer Requirement for ADA Awards
ADA is a volunteer run organization that is dedicated to providing opportunities to its members. To encourage members to participate we have added a volunteer requirement to be eligible for year end awards. This is a great opportunity to give back to the club.  In order to be eligible for the year end awards ADA will now require 3 hours of volunteer service. This must be done during the current awards year (1/1/11-12/1/11).Volunteer hours after 12/1/11 will count towards the 2011 award year. This may be done by the competitor or someone else appointed by the competitor in their stead. These hours may include 3 hours of volunteer time at ADA horse shows, clinics or other club sponsored events. These hours may also be completed by getting sponsorships and/or ads for the club. Each $50 worth of sponsorship and/or ads is equal to1 volunteer hour.

The Alamo Dressage Association (ADA) is a nonprofit Group Member Organization of the United States Dressage Federation (USDF).  Members of ADA also become Group Members of USDF.
