From the USDF Office....

The USDF Connection will now include a section called "Heads Up".
This section will be taking the place of what was previously known as
"Bulletins". Below you will find examples of what will be printed in
the "Heads Up" section. Please direct any questions or ideas to
connection@usdf.org.
Heads Up Section Items
What works and would be considered
1.Stories that are newsworthy, interesting and unique.
2.Stories that can be applied to many more of our members.
3.Stories or items that require action or offer something to our members.
4.Statistics

EXAMPLES
1.The story of a 31 year old PSG horse that is still competing. This
is simply amazing!
1.The name of the first horse registered with USDF. Interesting and
historical.
2.A new GMO/IMO program that promotes the sport and encourages others
to get involved that other clubs could use in their area.
3.Schleese saddlery is offering free saddle fitting demos to clubs and
regions.
4.____GMO had more members receive USDF year-end awards in 2007 than
any other GMO. OR, 23 members of CDS won USDF Year-End Awards this year.

What doesn't work and will not be considered:
1.Stories of individual successes that are common when considered
within the context of 35,000 members.
2.Stories that are not dressage related.
3.Promotional items for individual events.
4.Copyrighted Material

EXAMPLES
1.Linda Schultz won her first training level class at the Local
Schooling Show. What would make this work was if there was a unique
twist to the story: The horse recovered from a debilitating illness,
the rider fought tremendous odds to do this, etc.
2.Suzy Q. Rider is teaching pilates.
3.Nevada Riders GMO is hosting an event. Someone/a GMO is hosting a
fundraiser.

Certificates for the USDF University Program will now be awarded at the following levels; USDF Certificate (15 credits), USDF Diploma (30 credits), USDF Bronze Diploma (45 credits - reduced from 60), USDF Silver Diploma (60 credits - reduced from 120), USDF Gold Diploma (75 credits - reduced from 180), and the two newly created levels of USDF Platinum Diploma (90 credits) and USDF Diamond Diploma (105 credits).
Under the new program requirements, all pre-registered attendees/auditors at any USDF approved program will receive USDF University Credits.  In addition, participants in USDF Adult Clinics, Junior/Young Rider Clinics, Instructor Certification Workshops, "L" Program, and Sport Horse Seminars will now receive four credits for participating as opposed to the previous two.

Kyra Kyrklund Announced as 2008 Adequan/USDF National Symposium Presenter

Lexington, KY (March 11, 2008) - The United States Dressage Federation is excited to announce that world-class trainer and rider, Kyra Kyrklund, is returning to conduct her third Adequan/USDF National Symposium.  This year's symposium will be held December 6-7 in Denver, CO.
Originally from Helsinki, Finland, Kyra won the Finnish Championships ten times from 1972 to 1989 and competed in every Olympic Games from 1980 to 1996, placing fifth three times.  In addition, Kyra has participated in the 1990, 1994, 1998, and 2006 World Equestrian Games placing second, fourth, ninth, and seventh respectively.
Beyond Kyra's extensive resume in the ring, she has also developed a system of training horses that combines the core elements of the German and Swedish systems with her own, unique techniques.
Upon returning to Finland from her time in Sweden and Germany, Kyra started her own business, Helsingin Kilpatalli, which she ran from 1976 until 1991.  Here, she was able to take the most important elements of the systems she had learned abroad and translate these into her own approach with outstanding results.
For many years, Kyra was responsible for the training of the Finnish junior and young rider teams.  Since 1985, they have won medals both individually and as a team at Scandinavian and European championships.  Also, the first ever Finnish Olympic dressage team consisted of only her students and they placed sixth in Seoul in 1988.  In 1991, Kyra moved to Sweden and became the chief dressage trainer at Flyinge stud, which transformed it into an international mecca for dressage.  In 1998, following many successful years in Sweden, Kyra moved to the United Kingdom where she now lives on a farm in West Sussex.
Kathie Robertson, Senior Programs & Education Coordinator, stated "We are very pleased to be able to bring Kyra and her wealth of knowledge and training techniques to the attendees at this year's symposium.  It is sure to be an unforgettable experience for riders, auditors and horses alike."
For more information on the 2008 Adequan/USDF National Convention and Symposium, please visit www.usdf.org or contact the USDF office at (859) 971-2277.

New sale horse class offered at Reiterhof!

A new and exciting format to view sales horses!  Reiterhof is doing a class called the Keenland Class where sales horses will be ridden for a short period of time during the breaks so on lookers and potential buyers can view horses for sale, them being ridden under saddle and all in one location.  This is a super idea as any of you who have shopped for horses knows the tedious travel as well as time, arrangement and expense it takes to see several potential horses.  If you are looking or have a horse you are trying to sell, contact www.reiterhof.us about the Keenland Classes.

Note added from Susan Howard 4/22/08 -  The Keenland sale "classes" are still open and are not subject to late fees.  If you have a horse you would like to present, please contact Reiterhof at the website address above.

USDF All Breed Awards -

Have any of you ever wondered about the All Breed Awards with the USDF?  The All breed awards is a program that recognizes certain registries that are affiliated with USDF.  The registries that are recognized can be found here .  Are you getting your breed points?  Make sure and have your horses papers sent in to declare its registry so you can earn your well deserved recognition.

Do you know that many "grade" or non registered horses are eligible for what is called Certification of Pedigree with many of the registries that would allow you and your horse to declare a breed and qualify for the end  of year All Breed Awards?  Thoroughbreds, Arabians and crosses are very much accepted into many of the registries listed on the USDF site.  If you are interested and wonder if your horse can qualify for a registry, contact our webgroom at web@alamodressage.org and she can give you and idea of what your horse can qualify for and contact information.

Last minute add on to our rated shows list -

On the first weekend in October (October 5 and 6) Richard and Susan Howard's Reiterhof training stable will produce two fully recognized shows at Silver Hill Stables in northeast Austin near Palmer and IH 35. These competitions will serve as qualifiers for SWDC 2008 championships and American Bankers Insurance Group/ USDF qualifiers for 2009 championships. Training through Grand Prix classes will be offered, as well as musical freestyles. Entry forms and prize list should be available at www.reiterhof.us after August 9th. Entries close September 5th.

Spectators are welcome and general admission is free.

Susan Howard, well known as an "L" graduate with distinction and a USEF Technical Delegate ("R") throughout the region, will serve as show manager. "This show was started to fill a serious hole in the state's show schedule, namely no recognized competitions in Central Texas. We try to keep the show low key and supportive, to allow riders to make the transition from schooling to recognized show, and to provide an opportunity to bring out young horses or to move up the levels. It's important that riders at every stage have feedback from excellent judges to ensure they stay on the proper path in their training. We are indeed fortunate that Anita Owen, "S" from Colorado (and mother of World Young Horse Champion rider, Suzanne Hassler) will serve as one of our judges. Anita has judged all over the world, is very correct but also kind."

Young Horse News, Texas is represented!

The ADA would like to congratulate Katie Robicheaux of Houston Texas.  Katie represented the United states at the 2008 Young Horse Championships in Verden Germany in the 5 yr old division.  This is not small feat as her scores were compared to some of the best horses in America to qualify and then competed against the best in the world in Verdan.  Her Dutch bred gelding (Paddox x Jaconda x Michelangelo) who was bred in the Netherlands, qualified with a impressive 8.3  just under Jennifer Hoffmans (CA) stallion Rubinino who scored a 8.9.   Katie's big impressive grey horse placed 15th in the consolation finals.  You can read the results and the horses involved at -  http://www.wbfsh.org/?GB/Activities/WBFSH%20Young%20Horse%20Championship/Dressage/Results%202008.aspx

Congratulations to Katie on a job well done!!!!

Fuel Cost are outrageous!!!

Are you planning on going to a show?  If you have extra room and you would like us here at the ADA website to post a "haul opening" to a certain show to help other split fuel costs, please email us at HingstarSTF@live.com and we would be more than happy to post the info here for others to see.  Splitting fuel from here to Austin, Dallas, Houston, College Station, etc could be a few hundred dollars savings in the long run.  For those interested, we will make another section on the website to inform others of trailers going to what shows and openings that that trailer may have with contact information.
