Jochen Hippenstiel is the head trainer of the Tempel Lipizzans and has been

since 2002. During that time, he has coached one of the most winning

groups of riders at the USDF Region 2 Regional Dressage Championships. He

coached Katie Hamilton to a team gold at the North American Young Rider’s

Championship in 2005 and took her to compete at the first Young Rider

World Cup Competition in Germany. Throughout his coaching career,

Hippenstiel has trained more than 15 horses to Grand Prix, including Adrett,

ridden by Pia Laus for Italy in two Olympics and two World Cup competitions.

Junior and young rider teams coached by Hippenstiel in Germany also won

numerous regional and national titles in the 1980s. During his six years as

national coach for Luxembourg (1992-1998), the country’s teams repeatedly

qualified for the European Championships and Hippenstiel-coached senior

rider Pierre Rossy progressed to the 1998 World Equestrian Games in Rome.

World Class Dressage Competitor

A world-class competitive rider in his own right, Hippenstiel competed in

Germany’s national young rider championships at the young age of 14. He

has been coached by some of Europe’s most famous equestrians including

three-time Olympic Gold Medalist Harry Boldt, and U.S. Team Coach Klaus

Balkenhol. Hippenstiel received his master’s degree as an instructor with one

of the highest scores ever recorded, and twice placed second in the German

Championships for professionals at the Grand Prix level. Hippenstiel is one of

only a few equestrians in the world to be recognized as a member of the

International Dressage Trainer Club.

Highly Regarded Instructor

Klaus Balkenhol said of Hippenstiel, “He is without a doubt one of the best

trainers for horses and riders up to Grand Prix. He has the ability to work

very individually with every rider and horse following the successful German

system of dressage training. He was so successful in training young riders

and young horses that my own daughter, Annabell, was trained by Jochen.”
